Floodwaters are still affecting Bangkok and 27 provinces, mostly across the Central Plains, according to the Bangkok Post on 6 October 2026. Around 3.14 million people in the North, Central Plains and East are affected. The southern region is now preparing for heavy rain as the annual northeast monsoon approaches. The article names no specific southern provinces, dates or rainfall figures.
How big is the flooding?
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported on Tuesday, 6 October, that about 3.14 million people in the North, Central Plains and East are affected. Flooding continues in Bangkok and 27 provinces, mostly in the Central Plains.
At least 1.2 million people have registered for compensation across Bangkok and 59 provinces. About 529,000 of them live in Bangkok.
The North
Floods remain in parts of Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Mae Hong Son, Nakhon Sawan, Nan, Phayao and Tak, but water levels are lower.
The Central Plains
The picture varies by province:
| Situation | Provinces |
|---|---|
| Receding | Uthai Thani, Lop Buri, Kanchanaburi, Saraburi, Nakhon Pathom |
| Stable | Phetchaburi, Chai Nat |
| Rising | Sing Buri, Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani, Samut Songkhram |
Water in Kanchanaburi and Ratchaburi is receding and flowing towards Samut Songkhram via the Mae Klong River. The Chao Phraya flood surge has already passed Bangkok and reached the Gulf of Thailand.
The East
| Situation | Provinces |
|---|---|
| Stable | Nakhon Nayok |
| Lower | Chon Buri, Prachin Buri, Rayong |
| Deeper | Chachoengsao |
Natural drainage runs from Nakhon Nayok through Prachin Buri and Chachoengsao to the sea via the Bang Pakong River. There were reports of people trying to destroy floodwalls between Nakhon Nayok and Prachin Buri.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said drainage is difficult in Prachin Buri and Chachoengsao, and that the standing water has become polluted. DDPM chief Nirat Pongsitthithaworn said crews will speed up drainage into the Bang Pakong River to ease the burden on residents of Chachoengsao, Nakhon Nayok and Prachin Buri. High-clearance vehicles were evacuating residents in Bang Khla district, Chachoengsao.
The South
Southern provinces are preparing for flooding as heavy rain is expected with the arrival of the annual northeast monsoon. The PM said provinces are getting ready as the monsoon rain approaches. The article does not say which provinces, when the rain will arrive, or how much to expect.
Government response
On 6 October the PM ordered officials to speed up compensation payments. At least 1.2 million people have registered.
