Flood warnings are in force for provinces along the Chao Phraya River, plus Phetchaburi, Chachoengsao and the southern provinces, because of accumulated water and forecast rain. Officials said on Sunday 4 October that water levels are falling in the Mae Klong and Chao Phraya basins, but standing rainwater is still a flood risk. More rain is expected around Saturday 10 October, and the prime minister has warned of heavy rain all week in the South. Nationwide, flooding persists in Bangkok and 27 provinces, with about 3.26 million people affected.
The warning
The warning was reported on 4 October 2026. It covers provinces along the Chao Phraya River, along with Phetchaburi, Chachoengsao and the southern provinces. The causes are accumulated water and forecast rain.
Deputy government spokeswoman Lalida Persvivatana said water levels are falling in the Mae Klong and Chao Phraya basins. She added that standing rainwater is still a flood risk.
Rain forecast
- More rain is forecast for Phetchaburi and neighbouring Prachuap Khiri Khan next weekend.
- Phetchaburi is also at risk from water released by Kaeng Krachan dam.
- Increased rain is expected next Saturday (10 October). It is a flood risk for the southern provinces and for Chachoengsao, just east of Bangkok.
- Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul warned that heavy rain is possible all week in the South.
- A related headline on the Bangkok Post page says more rain is coming 11-14 October. No details were given.
Central Plains and the Chao Phraya
The Chao Phraya barrage in Chai Nat was discharging 2,500 m³/s on Sunday. Residents near the river should follow government announcements. This applies especially in Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Bangkok and Samut Prakan. Parts of these provinces are still flooded.
Mae Klong basin
Flood alerts are out for Bang Khonthi and Amphawa districts in Samut Songkhram. They are partly under water but draining.
Bangkok
Motorists are advised to avoid these flooded roads:
- Chao Khun Thahan
- Chalong Krung
- Luang Phaeng
- Lat Krabang
A related headline says the city is stepping up drainage before the next rains.
Nationwide picture
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported on Sunday that flooding persists in Bangkok and 27 provinces:
Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Lop Buri, Sing Buri, Chai Nat, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ang Thong, Saraburi, Ayutthaya, Samut Prakan, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Ratchaburi, Samut Songkhram, Phetchaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Sa Kaeo, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Buri Ram, Chaiyaphum and Surin.
About 3.26 million people are affected. 31 people have died since 16 September, including 4 in Bangkok. Department director-general Nirat Pongsitthithaworn blames heavy rain and runoff from the North.
What it means for travellers
The worst-hit areas in the report are the Central Plains, Bangkok, the east and Phetchaburi. It does not name Krabi or Koh Lanta. However, "southern provinces" are under warning for rain around Saturday 10 October, and heavy rain is possible all week.
- Southern coast: Expect heavy rain and possible local flooding. It is worth checking ferry, boat and sea conditions, although the report does not mention them.
- Bangkok: Avoid the four flooded roads listed above, and allow extra time for airport and road transfers.
- Overland travel: Anyone driving through Phetchaburi or Prachuap Khiri Khan (the Hua Hin and Cha-am corridor) should expect disruption next weekend.
- Official updates: Follow official announcements. The report gives no travel advisories, closures or flight impacts.
