Fuel Prices Drop Across Thailand from Wednesday Morning
Thailand is cutting petrol and diesel prices at the pump from 5am on Wednesday, July 9, 2026, following a significant fall in global crude oil prices. The reductions are over 2.50 baht per litre across all fuel grades, bringing meaningful relief after months of elevated costs tied to global supply disruptions.
What Triggered the Cut
Crude oil prices peaked at around $112 per barrel on April 6, 2026, after the Strait of Hormuz was closed following a US-Israeli military conflict with Iran. Since then, global prices have retreated sharply, dropping to roughly $70 per barrel last week. The Oil Fuel Fund Management Committee decided to pass that reduction directly to consumers rather than hold it back or phase it in gradually.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul raised the issue at Tuesday's cabinet meeting, making clear that the public bore the pain of higher prices on the way up and should see the benefit just as directly on the way down. Energy Minister Akanat Promphan convened the National Energy Policy Administration Committee and the oil fund the same day to confirm the adjustment.
New Pump Prices
| Fuel Type | New Price (THB/L) | |---|---| | Diesel B7 | 34.94 | | Gasohol 95 | 34.94 | | Gasohol 91 | 34.57 | | Gasohol E20 | 29.99 |
Diesel and gasoline prices both fall by roughly 2.50 baht per litre from previous levels.
What It Means on Koh Lanta
If you are renting a scooter or car, filling up will cost noticeably less from Wednesday. Compared to the April peak, the saving is around 7 to 8 percent per litre. Transport and tour operators also face lower running costs, which could stabilise or slightly reduce transfer and excursion prices over the coming weeks. The Commerce Ministry is watching producer transport costs, so some knock-on effect on food prices is possible.
The government's Thai Chuay Thai Plus co-payment fuel scheme remains in place until September 30, 2026, and the Blue Flag low-cost retail programme continues alongside the price cut.
