flydubai Launches Daily Dubai-Bangkok Route

flydubai began flying directly between Dubai and Bangkok's Don Mueang International Airport on July 1, 2026, giving Middle Eastern travellers a one-stop connection to Thailand without layovers. The airline is running one flight per day through to mid-September, then doubling to two flights daily from September 15. If you're planning a trip from the Gulf, or wondering what kind of visitors will be filling Thailand's luxury resorts this year, this route is worth knowing about.

The Route and Schedule

Flights operate into Don Mueang, Bangkok's second international airport, which handles budget and regional carriers. From July 1 through August 31, the route adds around 10,292 extra seats into Thailand. The step-up to twice-daily flights from September 15 should make booking more flexible and may put some downward pressure on fares around the year-end peak season.

Who's Coming and How They Travel

The numbers behind this launch are striking. Between January 1 and June 21, 2026, Thailand welcomed 188,447 visitors from the Middle East. They spend over 100,000 baht per trip on average, stay 10 to 12 nights, and lean heavily toward five-star hotels and luxury resorts. Travel is typically in large family groups, and 65% are repeat visitors.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Ploythalay Laksamisaengchan described the repeat rate as reflecting "strong confidence in the quality of Thailand's tourism services," and called the Middle East "a key long-haul market for Thailand due to its high-spending tourists."

TAT Roadshow in the Gulf

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is running a roadshow alongside the launch, titled "Amazing Thailand Takes Off with flydubai Roadshow 2026." Events are scheduled in Dubai on July 7 and Abu Dhabi on July 8. The campaign is aimed at driving bookings ahead of the high season, so visitor numbers from Gulf countries are likely to climb through the rest of the year.

What This Means for Koh Lanta

More direct capacity from the Gulf translates into more Middle Eastern families arriving in Thailand through the back half of 2026. Given the preference for luxury accommodation and long stays, properties in that tier across Thailand, including on Koh Lanta, should see some of that demand flow through.
